
The budget states that it will provide paid family leave of up to at least six weeks for “new mothers and fathers, including adoptive parents, so all families can afford to take time to recover from childbirth and bond with a new child.” At this time the budget does not elaborate on how the plan would work or be funded, but it is expected to use the Unemployment Insurance (UI) system as a base, allowing states to establish paid family leave programs in a way that’s beneficial for their workforce and economy.
President Trump’s remarks in the budget document include a pledge to provide paid parental leave to help working parents and partner with Congress to enact the policy. Both parties have shown an interest in adopting the plan.
